A little bit about Tuscola...

In 1884 a landowner named John L. Graham moved to an area along Jim Ned Creek with his wife & six children. A short time later, Graham set forth an offer to anyone that would be willing to start a business in the area to serve the public, would be given free land.

A general store was opened by David H. Cole & a cotton gin was founded by Isham Wright & R.C. Malone. The first postmaster was posted in D.H. Cole's store & on April 6th, 1899 & Tuscola, Texas was officially recognized as a community.

The name Tuscola came from the local doctor that was born in Tuscola, Illinois. Dr. C.M. Cash started practicing medicine as several other businesses around 1900 started to open as well.

The railroads in the area had strategic loading docks & rail stations throughout the Jim Ned Valley. The Tuscola Hotel was built by the Pecos and North Texas Railway in 1909 & it is still there today.
